Much more prior to Monday’s council meeting.

It was a year ago I announced my candidacy for the San Carlos City Council. The subsequent campaign and time on council has been eye-opening, at times resembling a goat rodeo, and extremely rewarding. I wouldn’t trade this tremendous opportunity to serve for anything
I just want to hit two points of observation on this date:
Economic Development: Our Laurel Street Downtown has seen a number of new establishments, and the San Carlos Marketplace has just opened the Chipotle restaurant. There is so much more work to do – but the momentum is moving well.
And an exciting announcement: Foodville is moving to the South Plaza site! I know everyone is anxious to hear about an opening date – but I hope it will be soon!
Budget: I did not expect to be as passionate about the budget as I am now when I came onto the council. The state of the city is more challenging than I had originally thought. Painful cuts were made and voices came forward in opposition. I want to acknowledge all who stood to keep programs and services in place.
I am committed to building a sustainable budget for the city. Deficit spending will bankrupt our city and a new direction must be engaged. I am excited the Mayor agreed to move forward with budget committee and look forward to building a zero-based budget for San Carlos.
Let me thank all of you for your support and feedback over the past year. As always, I look forward to hearing from you.
